Acupuncture has been used as a form of comprehensive health care for over 5,000 years to support physical and emotional wellbeing. Once a complete assessment and diagnosis are made, we insert very fine, sterile, disposable needles into specific acupuncture points along the meridian pathways to assist in the free flow of Qi, or life-energy. This stimulation of acupuncture points encourages the body to promote its own natural healing ability and improve overall functioning and wellbeing.
Qi flows along meridian pathways, which are like rivers flowing inside the body. They carry Qi to all aspects of our being. There are twenty main meridian pathways that have been understood in Chinese Medicine. They connect to various organ systems, our symptoms, emotions, and environment. These are assessed for blockage, weakness or disharmony in the free flow of Qi. Often when a blockage or imbalance occurs, the body naturally re-establishes a healthy flow. However, when the disruption is prolonged or excessive, or if we are in a weakened state, dis-ease, pain and illness can result. Acupuncture is used to facilitate the movement and health of Qi, in order to awaken and enable our intrinsic healing ability.
Because of its holistic approach and subtle yet powerful ability to re-organize and re-harmonize us with our natural health, Acupuncture is also one of the most effective preventative forms of healthcare. Its philosophies and techniques were developed to keep us healthy, prevent dis-ease, and align us with the seasons.
